Tracing the Orders

Dragging An Ox Through Water

Owning the night
In the darkness of the web

There ain't no fight I can't turn

I'm running the table
The cats of summer are drawing me to my end

Someone's got your number written down
But they've mistaken it for maths to split a bill

They're tracing all the orders
And
Sampling the suppers of anyone
Chasing the flavors with the wine
Leeching out into the orchards
Drunk on the dirt
The sunlight in the pre-grape
The sum is nowhere

Scanning the wine list
An ill-fitting meshcap and a spell to talk low

There ain't no light
Whose frequency I couldn't burn

The agent had pre-partied hard
And left its recorder running by the powerline

Someone's got your number written down
But they've attributed it to somebody else with your name

They're elbowing all your nombres
And
Mis-spelling every syllable
The incantation of your eye
Flickering the airwaves in the heartland
Poisoning the route
To push the magic out
A thaumaturgy crafted for the paid 15 minute break

I know you can write
Because everything's been written on

Slender the night
Unchoked by the memory of words

The steller's jays are weighing out a phrase
Stashing all density in moss for the winter

Someone's got your number written down
And they've taken it for a quantity of remains

They're prodding for movement
And
Scrambling all sensors with the echo
Foraging the murmurs on a scry
A tape loop unstuck from the bulletin
Dampening the line
With automotive whine
The earth is what it seems
